Mining Rehabilitation Reforms

In late 2018, the Queensland parliament passed the Mineral and Energy Resources (Financial Provisioning) Bill Act 2018 (Qld), which is a key aspect of the government’s initiative to improve environmental management and mining rehabilitation across Queensland.

This legislation significantly reforms the financial provisioning requirements for resource activities – previously managed by each environmental authority – and introduces a new progressive rehabilitation and closure planning scheme for the life cycle of mining activities.
