The Endangered Koala – How the upgrading impacts the law and the conservation of the koala
On 12 February 2022, the conservation status of the koala was upgraded to “endangered” under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth). As a consequence, Commonwealth and State laws have since been amended to reflect the koala’s “endangered” status.
This seminar will focus on the implications of the upgrade in conservation status of the koala including how it impacts Commonwealth and State legislation, impacts environmental offsets and potentially improves conservation of the koala.
